Socioeconomic and demographic statuses as determinants of adherence to antiretroviral treatment in HIV infected patients: A systematic review of the literature.
CONCLUSION: The majority of the reviewed studies reported that there is no association between socio-demographic and economic variables and adherence to therapy. Whereas, some studies show that age of HIV patients (per year increasing) and sex (being male) were positively associated with adherence to ART. Among socio-economic factors, the available evidence does not provide conclusive support for the existence of a clear association with adherence to ART among HIV patients. There seems to be a positive trend between socioeconomic factors and adherence to ART in some of the reviewed studies. PMID: 31538899 [PubMed - as...

Three Ways to End HIV Stigma and Discrimination
By Ifeanyi NsoforABUJA, Oct 7 2019 (IPS) As a Public Health Doctor, I often meet people who experience stigma simply because they live with HIV. One person who still haunts me is a woman who is HIV positive and when she was in labor, a midwife would not help her. Instead she shouted at her to just push out the baby and then she stood far away from the bedside, disgusted by the woman’s HIV status.  No one should go through such stigma at a vulnerable situation when they are about to birth life. Another lady I met was denied university admission because she is HIV positive. She was screened for HIV without her consent, ...

Attitudes, perceptions and behaviours towards HIV testing among African-American and East African immigrant women in Washington, DC: implications for targeted HIV testing promotion and communication strategies
Conclusions The study shed light into the complexity of factors that constrain women from presenting themselves voluntarily for an HIV test and highlighted the nuances between African-American and East African perceptions. Implications of findings for effective targeted HIV screening promotion and communication strategies among these groups of women are discussed.

Is there an association between African national HIV prevalence values and socio-economic status of their albino populations?
Conclusion There is an association between national HIV prevalence values in Africa and socio-economic status of their albino populations. It shows poverty-stricken African albinos to be apparently more likely to be HIV positive than their normal-pigmented counterparts. Neglecting the special educational needs of this group exposes the general society to danger.

Perceived quality of HIV treatment and care services in Wolaita Zone of southern Ethiopia: a cross-sectional study
Conclusions The majority of the participants reported perceptions of good quality HIV care and satisfaction with the services. Satisfaction with services; responsiveness; health locus of control; perceived financial fairness; perceived transportation convenience; employment status; and distance from the health facility were predictors of the perceived quality of HIV care. Thus, improving quality of HIV treatment services may require addressing the above factors.

What influences quality of life in older people living with HIV?
CONCLUSION: While the cross-sectional nature of the investigation could not establish that the associations were causal, the findings indicate that concerns about memory difficulties, anxiety and depression, as well as gender, ethnicity, financial factors, and relationship status, are important contributors to QoL in this group. These findings point towards the need for further research to clarify the mechanisms through which the factors identified here affect QoL, and to identify possible interventions to improve the QoL of older people living with HIV. Ageing with HIV: a longitudinal study of markers of resilience in young adults with perinatal exposure to HIV, with or without perinatally acquired HIV
CONCLUSIONS: YAPHIV and YAPHEU demonstrated resilience, attaining at least one young adult milestone. Cognitive, behavioural and social resources to support resilience in childhood and adolescence may provide the foundation for continued achievement throughout adulthood.PMID:36176020 | DOI:10.1002/jia2.25982
